AMTA AL Chapter BOD Meeting Minutes

October 31, 2002, 3 PM CDT via Conference Call

The Board of Directors (BOD) met via teleconference (hosted by Genesis Conferencing). 

      Len Daley opened the meeting at 3:05 PM and Sharlie Kinsey took the roll and annotated anyone leaving or reentering.

      Agenda accepted as presented and distributed.

      Treasury 1. Report: Checking Balance $5,067.07, Money Market Account $13,989.69

2. Portland expenses: $3,375.76 (less than last year). 3. Merchant account arrangements for credit card payments for Annual Meetings, CEs at quarterly meetings and merchandise, at events and over the website.  Len contacted the bank, promised quote not received.  Karl will follow up.   4. Guidelines for BOD expenses.  Not completed. Still a pending action item.  Action Len  5. Invoice for Capps College Summer NL ad submitted.  Heather noted PO required. – Action Karl and Heather.

      Membership Report Prof 185 (+4), Assc 173, Sassc 57, Schools 5, Total 420 (-3) – Action Russ

      Education Report – Michael Whitely contract for Special Needs presentation for Feb QM in Montgomery.  $1,336 is bid for 6 CE Hr presentation including travel and expenses.  We need 15 member participants to break even.  Will accept up to 25 in contract.  All out PR through schools and with neighboring Chapters agreed upon.  Other proposed presenters include: Brent Pace for Medical Massage in May, Peggy Farlow/Touch to Heal 3 CE hrs at QM Aug Huntsville, and Sue Johnson/Lymphatic Drainage and Margaret Pittenger/Feldenkrais and Jay Jones/Palpation Skills at QM Nov Mobile or AM in May Birmingham.  Benny Vaughn is unavailable in 2003 may be available in 2004.  National meeting Chapter Presidents from GA, FL and MS expressed interest in regional gathering on the gulf coast.  2004 May AM at Grand Hotel is a possible event for that group and it can double as our annual meeting. 1. This QM in Mobile, 6 hrs - Aquatic Massage – Julia.  Pre-registration of 4 for morning and 8 for afternoon sessions.   Action Julia   2. AMTA National Education Committee rejects PEER CE Hours for National AMTA credit.  No response yet from State of Alabama or NCBTMB.  Refund from Educo, Inc. and notification due to one participant. Notification letter to Educo, Inc.- Action Len.

      MERT –No Report. AL Chapter MERT received certificate of appreciation from AMTA National in Portland for our support of MERT training. Action Gayla. 

      Public Relations – 1. Report on MAW Oct 20-26, 2002.  Significant activity in all parts of the state.  Massages done in Dr. Office, Red Cross Blood Drives and Home Depots.  Some TV and Radio interviews and promotions.  Well done to all participants. Action Marcia.

      Government Relations – no report. Action Denise.

      Newsletter 1. Report – Fall Issue published and posted to website.  Deadline for the next issue is Dec 1, 2002. Fall edition 12 pages. Printing sorting mailing cost $375.92, postage cost $89.11. Total cost $465.03 compared with $749.25 for the last issue.  Mailings with Graphics and Mailing resulted in some cost savings but do require careful management of lead-time in the future.  2. Classified ads are being accepted for members/readers @$10 for up to inclusion in 4 issues unless withdrawn as sold. Ad also added to marketplace section on web site. 3. 5 members now receiving on line newsletter in lieu of printed version. Action Linda.

      Web Site – 1. AMTA AL Chapter won the first ever Website of the Year Award 2002!   2. Still need pictures for BOD and Committee pages (small head shots preferred, but we can crop you out of any photo submitted).  Need photos from Karl, Marc, Marcia, LaDonna, Shannon, and Joe Bright. Action Len.

      T Shirts and Pins – Heather will deliver on hand supplies to Shannon. Action Shannon.

      HOD – Report on Proposals –

Indiana – 800 number (passed by large margin)

      History – Joe Bright of the Northern Region has volunteered to be our chapter Historian.  Welcome aboard Joe!

      AMTA AL Chapter Standing Rules – Two previous submissions in the 1990’s were never confirmed by the Chapter as approved.  Chapter must prepare a new submission to AMTA National for approval by Feb QM and then vote on it at our May 2003, Annual Meeting. Action Len
